What type of KBG should I plant

I live in the plateau of Blue ridge Mountains near Virginia Tech (2000ft elevation)and wanting to take my lawn up a level in appearance. I am a newby to turf/grasses but believe I have a mix of Kentucky 31 (light green) and other TTTF. I have researched the blue grasses and am probably more confused then ever at about which one will do best and give me the deep green color that I so desire. My preference would be the midnight/arcadia variety but am thinking that America might be better suited. Hence why I am asking for some help from those knowledgeable in this area. If I can get away with this and because its an aggressive species, can I just start to overseed with it and it will eventually take over? Thanks for any help you might have.

Well you are too late to start a renovation this year. You could overseed (still a bit late this year), but it will not take over your existing lawn. It will fill in bare spots, but it won't displace existing grass. In terms of picking the right cultivar(s), you should consult the ntep results (www.ntep.org) to see which ones perform best in your area. Also you will be better off planting a blend, not a single cultivar. The current practice is using a compact midnight, compact, and compact america, but there are other types you could use such as aggressive, mid-atlantic, etc. My advice would be to get a soil test (logan labs) and wait till next summer. That will give you plenty of time to get your soil up to snuff.

I think tiemco meant to say, "...wait till THE END OF next summer."
