Aerate new sod

bobbytables

I moved into a new construction home this summer and the sod was laid at the beginning of July (2 months ago). It was laid right on the existing compacted clay-like dirt from construction. It has rooted enough that I can grab it with both hands and it is not moving.

The landscaper suggested I aerate every fall starting with this fall. Is it ok to aerate now? I've heard in the past that you don't aerate new sod for at least 12 months, but this is pretty bad dirt underneath and I was wondering if aeration would help these new roots grow. But I don't want to hurt my new sod if it's too soon to aerate.

I live in Minneapolis, MN and have Kentucky Blue Grass with a small mix of other grasses like fescues.
