Organic sod - does it exist?

That's it, that's my question - is there such a thing as organic sod? I'm not having any luck finding somewhere that has it. One guy told me that chemical free is not possible, it takes a certain amount of pesticide and fertilizer to grow it.

The reason I need totally chemical free sod is that I want it to lay some at one side of my fish pond. If there are chemicals they could wash into the pond and harm the fish. The problem with using seed is that before the grass became established, the bare soil could wash into the pond and create a big muddy mess.

Hmmmm maybe I could grow my own sod somehwere else in the yard, then dig it up and move it next to the pond.

Growing your own would be your only bet for totally chemical free.

But the other side of the story is that sod farmers aren't applying every chemical they can get their hands on willy nilly. That stuff cost money......what the sod farmers are trying to make.

Every sod farm levee I've ever walked down, or any farm levee for that matter, had ditches full of fish, turtles, snakes, lizards, beavers, and various other birds or waterfowl. All seemed in great health by my eyes.

Google "KBG sod in pots". Look for an around the yard article by jglongisland.

Not to this sod farmers knowledge. I would be out of biz immediately if I tried.

As Grasshole states Sod Farms make their living off the land and would never do anything to harm their land like any farmer who makes their living off the land. We use as much organic material as possible and our land is as fertile and healthy as any other process.

But what it boils down to is imagine you have two sod farms side by side selling the same grass. One sells for $100/pallet and the other sells for $300/pallet. Can you guess who is going bankrupt and out of biz?
