Light green patches on lawn

| Hi all,
One side of our lawn has bright green, round patches of grass with a dead root area that pulls out easily with my hands. The patches are almost mossy looking. They start off as round areas in the lawn and spread. Now a few mushrooms have appeared. I'm not sure if it is Fairy ring or not. It doesn't seem to match Fairy ring in the pics I've seen. Any ideas? |

| Well I guess you didn't figure it out, but I took a look at the pic. Closeups of the grass would be helpful, but from what I see I am guessing those light green areas are poa trivialis, a grass noted for it's presence in spring and fall, that spreads via stolons. It could also be poa annua, but again, without a closeup it is difficult to tell. Does the lighter grass look different than the darker grass? If it's not different then it is probably a soil issue. |

| The lighter grass looks like grass with a mossy appearance and is spongy when walked on. It pulls out easily by hand and is dead underneath. It is spreading to other areas of the lawn and a few mushrooms have appeared outside of the lighter green areas. Too dark to get a close-up pic, sorry |
