When can I use my lawn after overseeding?

We are having our lawn core aerated and overseeded today (Sept. 26) but are planning a children's halloween party in the yard in about 1 month. Is that enough time to wait until many little feet are trampling around on our lawn?

Thanks for the input!

This is assuming everything is done perfect from now on.

If you are planting rye grass, then it will be up by then. It might even be tall enough to mow, but I doubt it.

If you are planting fescue, it will just be at the stage where it seems to stop growing.

If you plant Kentucky bluegrass, then it should just be about a week into sprouting.

So, no, nothing you planted today will be ready for a party of kids in a month. You would end up with a dead lawn going into winter.

Where do you live? If you live north of about Dallas then you waited a month too long to do the seeding. You'll need every bit of help you can get.

I see that the OP shows to be in PA. Since it is already scheduled, go ahead and plant your seed, but just know that it is going to get trampled and damaged by the children's activity. You may lose some of it, but you will not lose all of it due to the Halloween party. The bigger issue for you will be how well the seedlings and immature grass survives the winter season. Only time will tell. Who knows, we may even have a mild winter like last year.

By the way, what grass seed type did you plant?
