Mostly Shady Lawn - Reseed annually?

| Just moved to an area where most neighbors reseed each Sept before the leaves fall. Lawn has mixture of Tall Fescue, Zoysia and unknowns.
Do I have to aerate and seed too? Is there a better alternative? |

| Where did you just move to? How much shade do you get? |

| Huntsville AL and there's about 80% shade. We have two patches that get some sun daily and the zoysia is just now thickening up; however, the fescue has all but gone away. |
Need to get rid of some trees.

| 80% shade is going to pose a problem for almost all turfgrasses. Either cut some trees/limbs, or seed every fall with tall fescue. In Huntsville you would be better off with a warm season grass (Bermuda, Zoysia, Saint Augustine) over a cool season one (perennial rye, tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass) but only if it gets the appropriate amount of sun. |

| Yes. I agree - a warm season grass is probably best in Huntsville. |

| My Bermuda grass did fine in a lawn graced by lots of sun. It's either spend tens of thousands cutting old oaks, air conditioning bills increasing due to loss of shade or grass growing......Was hoping for very shade tolerant ideas. |

| Not going to happen down south (well grass anyway), sorry. |
