After you grind a stump

Jonathan

Hello,

I ground a few stumps earlier in the summer, and I'd like to plant some grass seed there. Do I need to dig out the shavings and such? Or can I just directly seed? One friend/former landscaper said dig it out, as the shavings will draw nitrogen from the soil. I've also heard, though, that this isn't necessarily as significant an issue as some think. Thoughts? The were spruce, birch, maple, elm, and I think hemlock. The trees were removed over 13+ years; some stumps were nearly completely rotted away. But this is the year I finally got around to renting a stump grinder. Nice tool!
