| Hey guys,
I have my backyard ready to see (750sq ft) and I ordered 2 lbs of buffalo seed, but from what I have been reading it says to plant this type of grass in May. Should I get a different seed or is it ok for me to seed this now? |

I sent in a request to the company to change my order to a bermuda blend, I feel more comfortable with the la prima bermuda blend then the buffalo grass. It seems a lot of people have trouble starting buffalo grass by seed.

Way too late in the year for either to be planted.

I agree with TW. Don't seed a warm season grass now unless you're in the southern hemisphere. If you decide to go with buffalo grass, use plugs. Seeded varieties will produce burrs and will also cause problems for people with allergies. I may be wrong, but I think seeded varieties of Bermuda are not as good as sodded/sprigged varieties.

Well Shucks I am up the creek without a paddle lol. I live near fairfield,ca I believe its zone 9a but I could be wrong. It is really hot right now but I am not sure what it will be like in the next month or so. Is there a certain type of seed I could use now for my zone? I already have the area ready to go I would hate to just have a mud puddle for fall and winter with my 2 year old being out there so much.

I ordered 5 pounds, I will only need 2-2.5 lbs to do the yard should I just plant it now and then re-seed it in the spring? I just want to avoid a mud pit if at all possible.

You could try annual rye grass as a temporary cover till spring. For best coverage and density try both buffalo and blue grama together.

I had switched to Bermuda, but after seeing some in person I have changed my mind yet again. I had poor planing on seed selection and now I will receive a bunch of seed that I wont use lol. 40 dollars down the drain but maybe I can give it to someone who wants it or if I am lukcy I can ask them to change it with a differnt seed. I like the grass I have in the front but I have no idea what it is someone gave me their left over seed and said it was a mix. seems to be fescue and rye from pictures I have seen. I think I am better off going to a local place and asking them questions about my specific location and what I am looking for.

You can plant any of the cool season grasses you want like Fescue and Rye. Any box store sells a mix. Just keep in mind the Buffalo, Bermuda, and any of the cool season grasses are all incompatible with each other.
