| OK the last two years I have been way to laxed on my lawn care and now I want to know what this grass is and the best way to get rid of it. Hopefully it will be identifiable with the picture. It looks to be a fine type of grass. My lawn is supposed to be St. Augustine but because of my lack of care this has grown in several large spots. Can I get rid of this by plugging with more St Augustine or do I need to actually dig it up to get rid of it?
Thanks,

That is bermudagrass and the only way to reduce its growth and development in your St. Augustine is by promoting an environment that is more beneficial for St. Augustine and less beneficial for bermudagrass. In addition, the use of Atrazine herbicide at specific times of the year can help reduce your bermuda encroachment. I'm not nearly as experienced with St. Augustine as are some others on this forum, so I'll step aside and let them guide you to St. Augustine success.

Yeah I was afraid it was bermudagrass. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of it. So far everything I've read says basically good luck getting rid of it.

Kill off the Saint Augustine grass and lay Bermuda sod. Bermuda is a superior grass.

No can do. It will invade my neighbors and that is not cool. Bermuda grass is ugly.

Bermuda grass is ugly. Really? Do you consider golf course grass ugly or do you envy them? Every golf course in Florida is Bermuda grass, and SA is a ugly weed in a golf course. It is real easy to kill SA, and impossible to kill Bermuda in Florida. But if you want to try think Atrazine.
