help reseeding lawn/fertilizer!!

We have reseeded our lawn about 3 times now. The last time it actually did great since we did it in the fall, but in about June of this year it turned completely brown and looked pretty much dead. While it did that, the crabgrass and weeds took over.

We are planning for reseeding in the fall and were considering just killing off everything and reseeding from there and renting a slit seeder. . Thoughts on this? The earlier reseedings, we tilled up most of it and raked it all before seeding.

We also just got our soil tested to see what we can add to it to make it better. We have VERY sandy soil. Analysis found that the Magnesium and Calcium are very high, Sulfur, Boron, Zinc, and Copper are low, and our PH is a little high- 7.2.

Soil testing place made recommendations for Fescue grass and recommended 140 lbs Nitrogen per acre, 50 lbs/acre phosphate, 60 lbs per acre potash, 33 lbs per acre sulfur, .4 lbs per acre boron, 2 lbs per acre zinc, and .1 lbs copper.

I'm guessing all of those are not extremely necessary for lawn? We just wanted everything tested.

Any thoughts on any of this, as far as fertilizing or our reseeding plan goes?

Thanks!
