Wet Spots in Lawn

I have some wet spots in the lawn at my new house and I'm wondering...instead of going to the cost of putting in a drain, could I possibly plant it with something that likes wet spots and would look nice? Would that be a feasible alternative? I haven't been here in the spring yet so I'm not sure just how wet it will eventually get. I'm told they're springs just under the surface that pop up. Lately it's been dry enough I haven't gotten stuck with the mower or anything, but it still seems a bit "gooshy" even when you step on it. They've created gulleys that continue to run down the yard so I'm not sure if plants would be sufficient or if I might still need to put drains in.
