If you can just put new topsoil on top of the rocks, that will save you a lot of money. Removing the old topsoil is most of the work.

Say you get a new 6" of soil, that will be 150 cubic feet of soil or roughly 6 cubic yards. That will cost around $250 delivered. The new sod will cost maybe $300 installed. Labor will be 2 people all day and add maybe another $400 to the cost. Factor in profit and I would guess you're looking at $1,200-$1,500.

If they have to dig out 4" of soil and haul it away and regrade, they'll probably have to bring in heavy equipment and it will likely add another $750 to the cost.

Just ballpark idea. You really need to get a few esitmates from local companies.
