| wondering what the latest date would be to sow my yard. i live in northern middle tennessee about 50 miles from the kentucky line. was planning on kentucky 31 seed. thanks. |

| The soil temp has to be at least 55 degrees in order for fescue to germinate. The best way to know your soil temp is get a soil temp thermometer. I checked my soil temp today and it's 78 in a predominantly shady area and 85 in a sunny area. Since I'm in a cooler zone than you are, I'm guessing it gets cool earlier here than it does there, and I've put seed down in October before. The soil cools more slowly than the air does. FYI - K31 is a cheap grass, but it's very wide bladed and grows in clumps. On the positive side, it can withstand very harsh conditions. Deanna |
