| Hey guys quick question. I am starting a new lawn (Upstate NY) and I used RoundUp a few weeks ago and killed everything. I recently tilled and I'm planning on having a professional hydroseed next week.
However, I am a bit worried that all the crabgrass might come back next year because the crabgrass seedlings had already sprouted before I used RoundUp. I could see them on the soil before I tilled...ugh. I REALLY want to avoid CG next year..I have fought it for too long! Is there anything I can do at this point in the fall? Do I just wait until spring and apply a CG preventer? Am I doomed for yet another year of a flourishing yard of CG? Thanks! |

| Putting down preemergent herbicides like Dimension, Halts, or Stonewall in the spring and/or summer will greatly reduce crabgrass germination next year. You can use Tenacity herbicide to take care of any late germinating weeds in your newly seeded lawn this year. |

| I imagine I will get a bit of CG then? I suppose thats fine as long as its manageable. Does liquid or granular preemergent herbicide work better? |
|
| Probably some cg, but it will be reduced significantly. I don't know which is more effective (probably not much diff), but granular is easier and quicker to apply for you. Generally liquids are used by professionals that have the equipment to apply them to large areas of turf. It would be much harder for them to use granular over such large areas. |
