| I sowed some tall fescue seeds about a week ago and they started germinating 2 days ago. Our weather here in Kentucky is about 10 degrees below the average for this time of year which means the nighttime temperature is already dipping into the mid 40s. I looked at the 10 day forecast and the majority of the time the temp is going to settle into the mid 40s. Will this cause any issues with the new grass growing such as going dormant?
I was also curious as to how long new grass needs before the first frost to be out of danger. I have read everything from 3 weeks to 2 months. Thanks |

| I'm in the same boat here in NE Ohio. I had some issues and didn't get the seed down till this past weekend. Low 40's tonight. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/lawns/msg0804385527104.html?2 3 |

| Don't worry about it. Soil temps are more important than air temps. Seedlings can handle cool night temps, heavy frost is another story. |

| I agree not to worry. |

| Thanks wilsocn. ...I went out and bought an instant read cooking thermometer for $3.99. Depending on depth & shade/sun, I was getting soil temperatures of 60-65 with one reading of 58. Look to be in good shape. |
