So I seeded my lawn here in the northeast in early Sept. with a blue, tall fescue, rye mix suggested for my area and it came in great. It was seeded in new topsoil with no existing grass. I used a starter fert.(high in P) with tupersan. Now, about forty days into new growth, it's quickly turning pale. Just over the past few days it I've noticed it's much more light green/yellow. I haven't done soil tests but was thinking of adding a fert higher in Nitrogen with less P and K. Has anyone had experience with new lawns going pale? Is it best to give a new lawn with starter fert(high in P) a Nitrogen boost about 1 1/2 months into growth? It has irrigation and my best guess is all the watering has flushed the fert and it's starving for N and iron etc.... All suggestions welcome as I couldn't find much in my searches. Thanks

It would help if you were a lot more specific about where you live. Northeast could be on the coast or high in the mountains. Location would make a difference. Assuming you still have some cool weather left before the cold weather, you can use all the organic fertilizer you want until you winterize. I'd start with alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow) at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet and see what that looks like in 3 weeks.

A soil test would be a good idea to determine if your soil has any deficiencies. Chlorosis can be caused by many things, including nutrient (both macro and micro) deficiencies, pH issues, soil conditions, etc. If it was my lawn, I would do the soil test (Logan Labs, basic test, $20), then apply half an app of starter, and a full dose of milorganite.
