As long as the pellets are expanded, they should not hurt a reel mowers, but what I would do is apply the pellets, moisten with a light spray of water, and the next day drag a hose across the expanded pellets to knock them down into the turf. If you have a way to anchor the hose at one end, you could do this in one pass walking around in a circle or an arc.

I'd be interested in how this works for you. Some say you can't get enough horsepower out of organics to keep bermuda happy. Others say all you need is alfalfa.

As far as Alfalfa in general, I have been happy with it. I couldn't tell you if that by itself worked. I used synthetics every month and I would use an organic every month alternating between alfalfa and milorganite. No complaints here.
