Southerngal, I see you're in zone 6b, so you can still seed this fall IF you get it done by the end of the first week of October. You want the seed to germinate in time to establish an adequate root system to get it through the winter. This can be done in NJ, even in the northwestern corner of the state, which is zone 5, up to and including this first week of October.

ate summer/fall is the best time to reseed or establish a lawn, so if you feel you can have your soil prepped and seed in place before next weekend, I say go for it!
