To Late to Apply Weed Killer in the Midwest?

I am in zone 5b. Would applying a weed killer such as Weed B Gon be effective at this time of the year in my climate? The forecast for the next 5 days calls for highs in the low 70's and lows in the mid 50's.

You can spray. It should be quite effective with those temperatures.

One thing though, the spray works best if the weeds are actively growing. If you are in area experiencing a drought, it may be best to water for several days first.

Wouldn't the weed be killed by the cold later on, so it may be better to wait until Spring?

Not necessarily. That is the case with annual grassy weeds but not things like dandelion and clover or other biannual and perennial broadleaf weeds. A lot of broadleaf weeds actually sprout in the fall before wintering, then they start growing in the spring. Most of them can be hidden by the turf canopy in the fall. But since they are small, they can be easier to kill.

I typically spray in the spring, but there are sometimes reasons to spray in the fall.

I did not know that. There's some creepy charlie in an area where the grass has been killed off. Figure some round-up would still work in fall?

Yes. RU should work in the fall still. The key is that it is actively growing. It may be growing more in the the spring, but should still do the trick in the fall.

IMO, I wouldn't RU a place that one might want to plant grass at some point in the future if I can help it. I probably would use a selective herbicide. Straight gly isn't persistant and won't matter for planting later, but I like playing that one safe when possible (obviously other then renovation).

Well no grass is plan there until Spring, so I imagine that the stuff would have broken down by then.
