Patch of lawn on a foreclosed property neglected since spring

We've acquired a foreclosed property with a patch of lawn that has been neglected since spring - or longer. Grass is between ankle and mid calf in height, fairly healthy looking, several seed, whatever they are called shooting up, very few weeds.


Temperatures 70oF to 35oF. Frost predicted by weather underground about Oct 20th. Winter temperature highs are rarely below freezing. It may go below 20oF some nights.

Should it be mowed short, medium, not at all? Cuttings collected or left in place? Fertilizer?
