What are the names and percentages of the cultivars that make up Black Beauty Ultra?

30% Dakota Tall Fescue 30% Montana Tall Fescue 20% Tombstone Tall Fescue 10% Blue-Tastic Kentucky Bluegrass 10% Frontier Perennial Ryegrass

Basically a mediocre mix using older or cheaper varieties. None of those cultivars perform well in the NTEP's. I am also not a huge fan of tri-mixes. No reason for the PR in that mix.

Not at that price. I agree about tiemco's opinion of the perennial rye. Definitely not needed, and probably there just to give homeowners the satisfaction of seeing something germinate quickly. I'm not fond of these mixes either, and you can buy very good fescue blends locally for half the price. I don't believe nationally marketed turfgrass seed is as good as blends or mixes that are customized to specific regions.

The only grasses I see sold around here are national brands. I must not be looking in the right places.

I think you're right about perennial rye, unless you specifically want it for some characteristic, like wear tolerance. One thing I've been thinking about is how it may tempt you to taper off your watering too early. You see these 3 inch seedlings, but the KBG hasn't even germinated yet.
