Preparing to sod. White substance appears when soil is wet.

Hi there. I have been removing around 3 inches of soil in my backyard where I am going to lay some sod. The ground has had poor filtration so I wanted to remove a bunch of the old stuff and then mix in some new soil. The thing I noticed is, as I am trying to keep the ground moist with watering, the water that sits on top of the ground before it drains has some white color in it. Is the ground possibly contaminated? We had some grass there before that died a couple of months after some painters cleaned all of their equipment on top of it. I am wondering if that white stuff is the old paint that washed off if their equipment. They said it was not a big deal and would not cause damage to the lawn because the paint was water-based, but I wonder. Should I remove more soil? Will my new sod die if I lay it over this? Can I add anything to the soil to help? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
