I'm glad I found this forum with its wealth of information.

I'm planning to have new sod laid on my front yard and would like some opinions on the following two types of sod for my area.

I live in Pleasanton, CA where the summers frequently go above 100 F, and winters see frost on the lawn.

A nearby sod company is offering several varieties of sod two of which are: Mello Rye (80% Kentucky Blue and 20% Rye), and Mello Fescue(80% Dwarf Fescue, 20% Kentucky Blue).

I'm leaning towards Mello Fescue because they claim it's more durable and water conserving.

Is one better suited than the other?
