| Hi everyone,
I've had a very successful last year and a half with the lawn. 2 previous years of really bad luck (reseeding a near bare lawn only to have the monsoons wash all the seed and work away, 2 YEARS IN A ROW!), but finally I'm in a good place. Mostly all tall fescue and KGB, with nary a weed, and it is thickening up quite nicely since the fall overseeding. I did that about a month ago and used my Step 1 Scotts fertilizer (it was the only thing local I could find with sideron/Tupersan in it) to fertilize and prevent weeds from the bare ground and possibly subpar seed I used (Pennington Tall Fescue blend). This week I was going to apply my winterizer (KGro 30-0-10) I picked up on a KMART deal but had read that it should not be applied during a mini-heat wave. Our temps this week are unseasonably warm (pretty much 70's all week), and I don't want to over-stimulate the top growth if fertilized. Am I worrying too much, or should I wait until next week when the temps cool back down? I had planned to fertilize a little less than the recommended amount now, and then again around Thanksgiving.... Thanks for your advice. |

| There is no problem applying fertilizer in your area at the current temps, in fact it's the best time. The winterizer should be applied when top growth has stopped but the ground isn't frozen. It should also contain all quick release nitrogen. This is usually around Thanksgiving where you live, but can be later if the weather is mild like last year. One more thing regarding fall overseeding; you don't need to use siduron since the main weed it prevents is crabgrass which won't germinate in the fall. |

| I would wait until next weekend. It's going to be hot and dry this week. Next week will be cool and wet. |

| Daytime highs in the 70's, night temps in the 50's is the sweet spot for cool season grasses and the time of least stress. While it might be dry, calling those temps hot is absurd and you should have no reservations fertilizing any time this week as long as you water it in. |

| Thanks for the replies. The concern I had was that while slowed, the top growth is still occurring to where I can probably cut once every 7-10 days. This mini-heat wave will probably only increase the amount of growth. I think I'll still fertilize and water in, since I want to fertilize again come Thanksgiving. I just wanted to make sure the consensus wasn't "HECK NO", wait until the temps drop! |

| You can bank on what tiemco said. Ferilize now (T10 or T12 as suggestions) and again around TG when the topgrowth has stoped with the quick release winterizer. |
