so I have a huge basswood tree in my back yard, I put seed down around it and am having success growing grass, but it seems to be water deprived on oneside no matter how much I water, any suggestions? I pruned it up at least 15' so I don't think its lack of sun light.. also my sprinkler setup sprays the trunk, is that going to be a issue?

Is it the north side of the tree?

RE: grass under a tree

The biggest problem with growing grass under a tree is root competition. It's not sunlight. If the tree has engulfed the area in fibrous roots, you can forget about growing grass. It can't compete. It will look good as long as you continually water it, but once you stop, it will die off.
