hello there,
I would like to know what techniques do you guys use to mow the lawn at the right time.. I just spent the whole day spreading tall fescue seeds and fertilizer in my 2acre property here in Monroe NC.. I would like to start cuting it at 3in on the spring so I should let it grow to 4.5in then cut it.. should I measure it every week or have a little wooden stake outside and once the grass reaches the height I cut it.. what do you guys recommend?

I recommend fingers. I give my lawn the old "one finger salute" to check the grass height and go from there, LOL!

I find once a week is about right for tall fescue once it gets to the height where you want to cut it. Of course this is flexible. If a lot of rain is coming in the late spring/summer I will mow before the rain if it is day 4 or 5 to reduce the chances of fungal diseases and it getting too high.
