Where do you live?
Does the grass grow well in the shade?
Can you move much closer to the grass, about 3 inches away, and take another picture? And if you can get one showing the unmowed tip of the grass that would help. If the grass has any seed heads, that would help. And while you're at it, get a close up of one of those blades that is half yellow and half green.

I live in South California. It gets a lot of sun, but yes - it grows well in the shade. Will take another closer pic of the grass. Thank you!

Here's a closer pic of the grass in my backyard. Will want to look at it and also have kids run on it. The grass is mostly in the sun and not too much shade. Right now my sprinklers go on everyday for 15 minutes and I also hand water the grass once a week and try to give more water to the brown/empty areas.

Can you tell what type of grass it is from this new pic?

You have Strooch Grass like a dog, part stray and part pooch. In reality you have a mix of what looks like a little bit of Bermuda and a whole lot of crabgrass and mixed weeds.
