buttercups spreading

hello

I have had a patch of buttercups (other names?) in a part of my lawn - spreads by sending out above ground thick stems - it goes into a neighboring perennial bed and I have weeded it by hand, but now it is spreading in the lawn and is very thick in a patch about 5x15 feet. I don't like herbacides but is this my only choice? I lived with it when the patch was smaller but I am concerned about it continuing to spread. Other solutions?

thanks very much for all advice

RE: buttercups spreading

I understand your concern about herbicide usage, but the amount you would be using for that area is so small, and of course you are not going to be eating anything you treat. Best to take care of it now before it spreads to a larger area.
