care of sod

We are going to have a patio installed in our yard next week. While my yard would be considered a disaster by most on this forum there are parts of the area to be excavated that have decent sod.

We live 25 mile east of Raleigh, and the temperature was down to 25 this morning and it is projected to hit that point several times in the next couple of weeks.. (Our average high temperature is about 40 with excursion into the 20's. Last year we had several periods with the highs being in the 20's)

I plan to remove the good sod from the patio area and use it in other areas of the yard.

Is there any thing that I can do to the newly sodded areas to protect it in the freezing temperatures?

Should the newly sodded areas be regularly water? (I realize that it should not be watered when the temperature is continuously below freezing. I also know that the sod has to have water to establish itself.)
