| We are faced with a redo of our yard. On some of the slopes there is minor erosion. The erosion is is between tuffs of existing grass.
This morning I noticed the landscape people at the new house across the street, were using sod in places of likely erosion. Would the use of sod on the slope placed strategicaly help re-sod the slope and prevent further erosion |

| You would be well advised to sod the whole slope, not just laying down pieces with the expectation that it will spread and cover all the bare ground. |

| If you're going to lay sod on a slope, you might have to hammer little stakes into the ground from the center of each piece of sod to prevent the sod from slip-sliding away down the slope. Once the roots take hold, I guess you can remove the stakes. Also, if you're left with open seams in between the sod pieces after laying them, you can fill in the open seams with dirt / topsoil. I laid about 10 pieces of zoysia sod this summer in my front and back yards, in places where there were lots of weeds. It was my first experience with sod-laying and plugging, and it was rewarding to see the outcome a couple months later. Good luck. |

| By the way, what kind of grass are you working with? |
|
| "By the way, what kind of grass are you working with?" The yard is a mixed bag of grasses with every thing from those that comes in a Contractors mix for new construction to native woodland grasses found in the upper coastal plain in North Carolina east of Raleigh. We have lived in the house since September, and main idea was to use sod to stabilize the slope which is currently covered with some woodland grasses until we reach the point we can take on the create/restore project of a new lawn. That project may be 6 to 18 months in the future because of other projects. The sod would be placed in the bare water depression to keep them from eroding. These depressions are interspersed in the native grasses. |

| Ahh, thanks. What kind of sod are you thinking of planting? |
|
| Had not really thought of the type of sod, I just wanted something to cover the spots of possible erosion. |
