hello there,
a couple of months ago I saw a new building being constructed around here in Monroe NC. and there was a big space with no grass just pure clay soil so after I week I passed by again and they had this weird layer of blue/green color material so I asked one of the guys what it was and he said its grass seed with fertilizer that if you put it like this you wont need straw.. does anyone know what is it? |

| that's it.. cus I have been trying to plant some grass seeds in a slope in my yard maybe 200ft wide by 20ft.. but when it rains the water washes it off.. so I was thinking maybe doing this. |

| I had my whole yard hydro seeded when I built my house a few years ago. I will honestly tell you and some may disagree but I think hydro seeding is not worth the money. It will come up fast but if the ground is not prepared correctly, like most slopes aren't, the grass will not last through next summer and you'll be doing it over again. If you can walk on it till it up good, make the ground soft for the seed to sink into. Maybe aerate it so the seed will fall in the holes and not wash off. Hydro seeding will push the seed into the ground a little by the force of the water but like I said if you prepare the soil well which the grass needs to survive anyway and the seed will work its way into the soil sowing it by hand the first time you water it in. Also use pine straw to mulch. Do not use hay. No weeds in pine straw. That should keep the seed from washing. You should be able to do the same job for half the money with a little hard work that is. Unfortunately though you’re getting a little too late in the year to do much anyway. Work the soil over early spring and sow then. |
