dead but alive lawn

I put some ortho weeds b gone on my st Augustine grass. A few days later the lawn started dying all of the grass blades died but today I noticed that the roots are still green and alive. Hiw can I fix my lawn. Should I rake out all the dead grass? I live in florida. The lawn looks dead and brown but the roots are green.

The green roots may be in the state of not quite dead yet. You have to read the labels very carefully with St Augustine. The only weed killer that is reliable is atrazine. It comes in many forms and they are all dangerous especially to pregnant mammals. Still, it is the only weed killer for St Aug.

Do you normally have a green and growing lawn all winter long? If so, then write back in about 3 weeks and let us know if the grass is showing any signs of coming back. Unless you just purchased this property, you likely have a watering and/or mowing problem that is going to keep giving you weeds until you start caring for the grass properly.
