Has growth stopped but the grass isn't dormant yet, and won't be for a couple of weeks yet? You're OK to winterize with any high-nitrogen, low everything else fertilizer (the first number on the bag will be very high, like 29-0-4 or 45-0-0).

If you have snow, or the grass is dormant, or it's going to happen very shortly, it's too late.
