Ariens snowblower

So out on my walk today I stopped by a pawn shop. They had a Ariens 937003 snowblower for $50 as is. I searched but found no info on this thing. What do you experts know about the machine? It does a Tecumseh 2 stoker.

Thanks in advance,

kelly

Got some more info. Apparently it was working, they sold it and it was brought back saying it was not working. Looks like straight gas was used and not the mix according to the pawn shop. So I presume the engine is smoked?

Straight gas will smoke it for sure.

Since its a Tecumseh , assume its push rod design . Well is it partially seized (stiff to pull over) or completely seized. What yr. ? If you somewhat experienced why not rebuild it , I would believe the residual Oil Fuel Mix saved the crank bearing and wrist pin if only partially seized , you may only need to parallel hone the cylinder and replace the rings . If it turns over why not spray some Break in Oil in the Cylinder and turn it over and then let sit for a few days . Try to restart it and go from there , if you hear piston or ring or wrist pin , bottom end knock or slap (unusual metallic noise) You options are rebuild or replace with Replacement Engine . Doesn't sound good but $50.00 what the heck you might be surprised , Let us know how it goes !

Not with you on this one E. If in fact this is a 2 stroke and straight fuel went through it it is BER. Somehow, I don't think he'll get the pawn guy to pay him the $50 disposal fee...

Your probably right Tom , but I have seen in the past some two stroke chainsaws reclaimed when partially seized (scuff the bore) , where the residual oil has prevented the main bearing from being washed out. I will bow to your experience within Blower Small Engines . Tom , how old would that Ariens unit be ? Isn't it a steal even without the Engine for $50.00 ? As I said not an expert within these
Snow Blowers Bro ! The reason I ask is a have a 10 Horse Tecumseh in the Garage in Storage off a 1985 JD Blower that I have kept for Wood Splitter usage some day lol. :)

I'm not sure on Areins date codes, tho a little research would likely give it up. If a person had access to an inexpensive 2 stroke Tecumseh that matched the machine could get up and running it may be worth it to them. I can't think that the machine would be near as good of a performer as the scoop type single stages. Some compact 2 stages do well though. This just seems a bit small.

Thanx again Tom for your assistance , what would I do with out you and CG ! I couldn't see the Forest for the Tree lol . I should have visioned it as Old School via the 2-Stroke Engine Design . I really have to get up todate with Google Search 101 , being a Novice within Snow-blower Manufacturers and Chassis or Model's Spec'c leaves me at a disadvantage...I intially was hoping it was something near current era , since both you and CG had recommended I look at Arien for next yr. Please except my apology for your waste of time..Ty :)

P.S. Have to give Cudo 's to Rusty also , keeps me on my toes , also .

Sorry for late reply, busy. I passed on the blower. It is gone from the pawn shop now so someone got it. I do not know enough to rebuild it.
