IF you want opinions on an engine, you need to post the make and model number of the engine, not the mower that it is on.

Assuming you mean the OHV MTD branded engine, there is nothing wrong with it. Same/better reliability as B&S OHVs. Being an MTD, the rest of the mower will crater long before the engine causes any problems.

I don't know that I would personally say that I like it as much as a Briggs. They're not problematic however but parts come through MTD. PArts are more expensive that I've gotten. To me, this is another Chonda - like the small Kohler Courage XT's. Earlier years on both, you replaced more components than if you had a Briggs or Honda. That being said, my WPM engine of choice would be Honda, then Briggs.

Ive only seen the mower of interest on MTD's website which says its has the 139cc MTD ohv engine -- no engine model number given.

As Spring approaches (not fast enough!) I will see if I can find this mower to look at in more detail.
