I need to look at the cable connections for the transmission and the Self-propelled - neither of which work. Seems like the hood/cover has to be taken off to do this. How does one remove the hood on this mower? Looks like there is one grommet that might hold the cover in place. Is that correct?

I'm not sure if you are saying that you have other problems than the self propel? When someone tells me that the transmission does not work, I assume they mean the self propel doesn't work. Getting at the transmission is a bit of a testy job. If your model's drive cable is adjustable, it is adjusted at the top of the cable near the control. It is also possible that the belt has finally worn to the point that the drive is not able to pull the mower. Or worse. If you are talking about the rear cover, and you see something like a little bracket near the transmission area- that is a retainer for the spring that hooks to the trans bracket. If that is what you mean by grommet.

I cleaned the the whole engine, gas etc. I blowed the gas line with air. Put in new spark plugs. The engine still not running? The engine burns all the gas that i put in it and die. What is wrong.
