Homelite Weed Eater - Stops after 30 seconds

I have a 5 year old weed eater that starts normally after I prime the bulb, then quickly dies about 30 seconds later.

The only way to keep it from dying, is to prime the bulb ever 30 seconds or so. I've gotten pretty good at doing this, but it is still a beating. As long as I keep pressing the bulb and manually feeding it gas, it works like normal.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I don't see anything out of the ordinary with the fuel lines. I also have always used Stabil in the gas before I mix in the oil.

I know you said you checked the fuel lines, but I had a similar problem I fixed by replacing the fuel line and the little filter on the end of it that goes down in the gas tank.

Here's a link to a thread I saw here about it...

Here is a link that might be useful: Homelite fuel line

You may want to replace the carburetor diaphragm. This part uses pressure pulses from the running engine to pump fuel into the carburetor. It can harden and deform over time and become inoperable. It sounds like you may be compensating for an inoperable one by pumping the primer bulb.

My Homelite trimmer had stopped running due to similar fueling issues. It has a Zama carb (I do not recall the model). I installed the applicable kit when it stopped running and it has been running fine for several years since. I bought my kit here.

Thanks everyone. I went to Home Depot and got the Ryobi fuel line & bulb replacement kit. It worked like a charm.

When I was replacing it, I noticed a small tear in the fuel line inside of the gas tank, just above the fuel filter.
