On the HXL's the little rod for hydro bypass hooks to 1 side of the tow plate. They don't always work any ways.Did any oil look like it had seeped out? Because it has been sitting- I would be concerned that the brake puck pins are seized- so that may need to come apart. Hopefully starting w/ the basics pay off.

didn't see any signs of any fluids having leaked out or anything of that nature.
as far as brake puck pins, where would I start on that one lol.. sorry I know cars and trucks, but mowers are a new beast for me lol.

Sure. A look on the side of the transaxle you will see the small brake disc w/ a caliper of sorts. You don't want to touch that disc after just trying to drive it and it is dragging because it will melt the skin off your fingers! Cold best- if you can wiggle it side to side- you know it is free. If not, loosen the two mounting bolts a turn or two and see if it wants to drive then. Once you see how it works, you'll figure it out. Visit the toro website for parts break downs and service manuals- which are free. There is an XL tractor manual specifically that will serve you well.

ah thanks again for the info, check the disc and its seems free :( i also gave a little misinformation, when i push the pedal to make it move is when it kinda gives the grinding gear sound not when I putt the bypass rod, sorry i was tired when i originally posted.. hoping its not the trans itself :(
