I have an older John Deere Silver Deck 14SB that we found at a yard sale for not a lot of money. It runs fine and all, but the left side shift lever that supposedly is supposed to regulate the speed of the self propelled system only goes at full speed regardless of whether the shifter is at position 1,2,3,4, or 5 and I'm wondering if that's simply a matter of cable adjustment or whether it's a more serious sign of a $300 transmission staring us in the face. The cable seems to be moving okay, but it just doesn't have any effect on the drive speed. When the ground is soft(like it is now) those "burnout" starts do leave bald spots in the yard and pushing a 100# mower would have to replace my exercise regimen.
Thanks in advance , and my grass thanks you as well!
