Yahoo made High Wheeled rear drive mowers for a while. I have one from the 80's that stills runs like a top. It is suppose to be a Mulching mower. But the cut is so bad that I mainly use it just for cutting rough stuff. I will get you a pic of it tomarrow.

The high wheel is popular on front wheel drive but requires too much gear reduction on a rear drive to be cost effective.

Plus, nobody has ever come up with a reason for the high-wheel mower in the first place.

We had a patch, I won't call it a lawn, that was rutted from construction equipment then allowed to grow over with quack grass. The high wheel Gardenway was the only effective means of cutting it and no, levelling and reseeding was not an option.

High wheels are heavier, more expensive, and more susceptible to damage and breakage from lateral forces. They were intended to make a mower easier to push so they wouldn't be needed so much on a self propelled unit. The older pneumatic types were susceptible to getting leaks and flats too which was a real pain.

I completely agree. I recently saw an Al-ko mower in Germany that was HWRWD and really didn't get it.
