Toro 520H - P220g ONAN - Shuts Down!

Posted by pr3ston MO (My Page) on

I have a Toro Wheelhorse 520H with an Onan P220G-I engine.

For the last couple years, it has started shutting down on me, like I suddenly turned the key off. It started out doing it just once in a while, but now it will only run for about 5 minutes. Sometimes it will start right back up, and sometimes it won't start for a day or a week.

I've been planning on changing the coil, but after reading some other message forums, I've read that it might be the coil pickups around the flywheel.

Any ideas???

Ty

If you visit toro.com and enter through the parts look up, there will be a spot for manuals. There are also Onan generator forums that could help too. Personally, I need to go to the manual.

Wonder what Pre3ston found was causing his problem last year? I have the same Wheel Horse lawn tractor that has just now developed the same problem.

(Toro 520h shuts down) I have one and mine is doing the same thing.

Please let me know if you find the fix. Thanks

Check the 9 wire electrical connector for corrosion. This is a common problem with the 520H. Jumper around any corroded connections. Be sure to use stranded wire as a jumper. I made the mistake of using a solid wire as a jumper and after a few years the crimp on connector started arcing and apparently ccaused a problem down the line. My tractor is now in the shop facing a $500.00 repair bill.
