| Howdy. I bought a 189 hour used Deere for one of the kids. I knew its transmission was universally faulty. But I wasn't ready for much more. The deck is their 48" EdgeCutting System.
The deck spindles only accept blades with their Starlock-pattern hole. A thick notched washer is located at the spindle base with the blade-hole reverse pattern. In my case the spindle notches are worn off so there's nothing except over tightening to keep the blade from spinning and that won't work. Question: Can these thick notched washers be replaced or must the owner buy a complete new spindle? Thanks, Gene |

| Well, the L130 I think only came with the three hole blade- which had a center pilot hole and two bolts. Which leads us to what the deck came off of. If you had a deck on an LA series, the spindle shaft with the star and the washer are serviced seperately. If it stays tight, it probably isn't mandatory that the star locks the blade as the deck isn't timed. |

| Thanks. I didn't know there was both an L, and LA. Mine is the LA. An employee at Home Depot told me how to remove shafts. The star was severly worn on two so I removed those. A JD dealer ordered new ones ($24 each)and they'll be here Monday. I removed the transmission while I was at it. TuffTorq said it would cost over $300 for parts to repair the transsmission to like new condition. The jury is still out. I've known a fellow for a long time that use to be a NASCAR mechanic before opening his own transmission shop. I mentioned the Net static about some faulty JD riding mower transmissions. It peeked his interest. He will look at mine. I hope he comes up with a resonably priced fix. Thanks again. Gene |

| Hopefully your Nascar buddy can get it up and going again. Let us know how it comes out! Some have success inverting the t/a and changing the oil. |
