HRB216HXA Sefl propel not pulling hard enough

I am getting ready to buy a used 5 to 8 year old Honda lawnmower that was formerly used in a residential setting. This unit sat in a garage for 5 years. Prior to storage, the old guy who was using it maintained it properly. Now, after 5 years, the seller didn't change the oil, gas, filter and plugs but according to him the mower runs in one pull.

Here's a small issue though. The self propel works however, it does not pull very hard or not hard enough is what he says.

A local shop told me it could be 3 things...namely the belt, cables or worst the transmission. If it was only the cables and belt, I can live with that. But for a transmission that's worth around $300, I'd rather buy a new Toro.

Need some advice. Help!

Honda has made a lot of different models, so without more information it's difficult to diagnose over the internet.

If the local shop is willing to do a quick and free evaluation and the seller is willing to part with his mower for a few hours then you could have it evaluated. Why don't you just drive by and give it a try in person?

If there is any question in your mind I think the peace of mind of buying a new fully warranted mower would be a much better idea. Give the Toro Super Recycler models a close look.

I have a SP Honda 4 years old. It slipped. It needed a new transmisssion. A year later it needs another. I just bought a Snapper.
