How to ground spark plug wire

Posted by yardworker1 none (My Page) on

I need to replace the belt on my self-propelled mower. This requires removing the blade. The owner's manual says I should first "Disconnect the spark plug wire and ground it against the engine." I'd like to keep all my fingers so could someone explain how to ground the wire against the engine?

RE: How to ground spark plug wire

If you have the spark plug terminal off the plug and pulled away so it doesn't make contact with the spark plug - it won't try and run. If you wish to ground the terminal - any piece of conductive wire attached to the terminal and the other end to the chassis of the mower .Tip the mower w/ the air filter up as to not contaminate the filter w/ fuel.
