John Deere 14SB

Was given a Silver Deck 14SB. This may be a little wordy but I feel I have to explain. I have the bag attachment and that is all. No manual, no chute. I had it serviced and it runs great but I have yet to actually mow my yard. I want to mow without the bag. Previous owner is very old and not in good health but he told me he always operated it without the bag or side chute. I asked him if mulch plug was attached and he could not remember. I tried to research online but am even more confused. Can I operate this lawn mower without the chute or bag? Does anyone know of a manual online without paying $25.or $30? Thanks to all who respond!

Here is a link that might be useful: Antler manual

Meh...it's a lawn mower thread. Rather not do links.

Dude. Roll your curser over the link. It goes to JD. Or go to deere.com yourself and search for the manual. Either way, I'm not going to read it to you...

I'm confused - that link you provided is just part numbers of the manuals, no actual PDFs?

Those are just links to manuals that can be ordered.

Have you contacted John Deere through their website? Or just called a dealer? Either one should have the information you need and will be able to tell you if a mulch plug was made for that mower and more importantly whether parts and manuals are available.

As to whether you can operate it without a plug or chute I would have to assume it works like most other mowers and the answer is yes. Cut grass should exit the hole. Seems obvious but I may be missing something.

There is a mulch plug available - about $30... it also comes as part of a conversion kit that includes the mulching blade and the plug - part BM17497
