A smaller spark plug gap may allow the coil to work better. As I recall though, most Poulan engines state their plug gaps to be at .020"-.025" anyway. How do you KNOW it has a weak spark?

Since you didn't put any model numbers in your post, it is hard to tell exactly which machine you are talking about.

However, as generalization, most if not all Poulan (and Electrolux/Husqvarna) use Phelon magnetos, which are well regarded and pretty stout. Phelon has more than 50% of the small 2 stroke engine market, and with good reason.

As previous poster asks, how do you know you have weak spark. The only way to test is with a spark tester which has an oversized gap to stress the coil. Don't expect looking visually at the spark across the plug to be a good test. Likewise a "blue" spark is not necessarily an indication of good spark.

The fact that you replaced the coil, and still have the same results tells me you have other problems. The chances of two coils in a row being bad are somewhat slim.

Get a Briggs & Stratton 19368 or 19051 spark tester and do it right. Should cost $20 to $25. You'll spend more than that on the next unnecessary coil.

The blower does not run, it gives no sign of life, not even with a shot of ether. I will check into a spark tester.
It may become another failure for my garage collection.
