Craftsman LT1000 Riding Lawn Mower will not start

My riding lawn mower has not been started for about 2-3 years now. I did not expect it to start when I tried, but I am now trying to diagnose why.

When I turn the key, there is no noise or anything. No clicking, just nothing.

I assume the battery is probably dead after sitting that long. I dont have an electrical meter reader, but would this be everyone's first thought?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes, i would take the battery to an automotive store and have it charged and tested. Or replace it. Depending on storage conditions, likely it will need carb service, and certainly other maintenance. If you aren't very mechanical, you may just want to bite the bullet and have it repaired.
