Kawasaki FC420V Problems

| Have a Kawasaki FC420V on a JD 175 that has me stumped! The mower backfires out the carburator using starting fluid and won't start. I've checked the flywheel key and valve setting and everything seems to be in order. I've changed out the trigger with no improvements. I've got spark and 60 pounds of compression (with the compression release working on the exhaust valve just before TDC). I'm thinking it may be the magneto but I do have spark. Is it possible for the timing to have jumped a tooth on the gear internally? The motor did run a year ago....oh yeah, I drained the old gas and had the carburator apart.....all looks ok. Suggestions? |

| Had the same problem with my JD 175 with kawasaki FC420V. The valves were carboned up. You will have to remove the cylinder head and clean the carbon from the valves and lap the valves. |
