| A co-worker gave me an old Craftsman lawnmower that has a hole in the primer bulb. I called Sears parts and they said that the only way to replace the primer bulb was by purchasing a new carburetor, which is $69.99. I'd like to avoid spending that much money on an old mower!
Any other options? I've tried patching it with rubber cement, but it doesn't seem to be working. Model: 917 383102

| Go to any dealer with your model number and order the primer bulb. Should cost about $5. There are different styles and some are hard to get out. Use the open end of a 3/4" deep socket to install the new bulb. There is an art to tapping the socket with a hammer to seat the retainer. By the way, some bulbs HAVE a center hole in them. |

| If you are looking for an easy fix- someone posted a short while back about putting a dab of silicone over the hole. I don't know why that wouldn't work -plus you don't need to worry about the new bulb sealing.... |
