Have a Briggs and Stratton 15hp ohv. Had a hard start condition researched the forum here and found that valves need to be adjusted. Opened the valve cover and sure enough both rockers were extremely loose . Adjusted intake to .004 and exhaust to .006 now engine back fires thru exhaust and will not start tried adjusting valves back to original positions and still no start I am at a loss

Not that it should matter "that much", did you adjust the valves with the piston 1/4" ATDC?

Yes sir removed spark plug rotated to compression stroke up to tdc then 1/4 past. Also valve bump for compression release working properly
